Canadian County Democrats’ $500 scholarship deadline extended to May 28
CANADIAN COUNTY, Okla. – Students registered to vote as Democrats are invited to apply for the Canadian County Democrats’ Robert “Bob” Burton Democratic Scholarship.
The $500 scholarship is awarded each year in memory of the organization’s former county vice chair for whom the awards are named.
2021 is the 15th year Democrats have awarded the scholarship.
Applicants must be Democrats registered in Canadian County and enrolled at least half-time at any accredited state-funded college, university or career technology center in Oklahoma.
Students of all ages are eligible.
The deadline to apply is extended to May 28. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted.
“The Canadian County Democrats’ scholarship helps students reach educational goals and encourages them to vote and fully participate in the Democratic process,” Shirley Burton, scholarship committee chair said. “We encourage all Democratic students to apply now.”
Burton is the widow of Bob Burton, for whom the scholarships are named. She is secretary of the Canadian County Democrats.
Scholarship committee members include Burton, Laurie Hammons and Dennis Purifoy.
Scholarship paperwork is simple to complete. Applicants must also submit supporting documents, including a brief essay, answers to several questions, two letters of recommendation and a copy of their voter registration cards.
Students may request an application from Burton or complete and submit a Google form at http://bit.ly/2021CCDScholarship, The Google form includes an additional link with instructions on page 1.
Applicants who submit the Google form must have gmail.com email accounts in order to upload supporting documents. Gmail accounts are free and easy to create at https://tinyurl.com/37fycmmp.

RULES:
ELIGIBILITY
Applicant must:
*Be a registered democrat in Canadian County, Oklahoma of any age.
*Be currently enrolled or be admitted for at least half time enrollment at any accredited Oklahoma state-funded college or accredited career technology center.
*Provide a copy of voter identification card
*Provide copy of active enrollment (or letter of admission) from school along with completed scholarship application.
APPLICATION
*Application is to be completed solely by applicant.
*All applications must be typed or printed clearly.
*Please attach a separate piece of paper(s) for essay question.
*Attach each of the following to the completed application form:
*Letters of recommendation from TWO Oklahoma democrats who will attest to applicant’s support and involvement in the Democrat Party.
*Proof of residence in Canadian County, Oklahoma.
*College transcript or proof of acceptance and high school transcript.
