OK Policy Outreach and Legislative Director Angela Monson will speak to the Canadian County Democrats on Monday, April 11
CANADIAN COUNTY, Okla. – The Canadian County Democrats will host Angela Monson, outreach and legislative director for Oklahoma Policy Institute, on Monday, April 11. In her role at OK Policy, Monson and her team create advocacy opportunities focused on equitable and fiscally responsible policies and expanded opportunities for all Oklahomans.
The public is invited to attend the Democrats’ meeting from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Yukon Police Department, 100 S. Ranchwood Boulevard.

Monson previously served in the Oklahoma House of Representatives from 1990 until her election to the Oklahoma State Senate in 1993. She was assistant majority floor leader and chair of the Senate Finance Committee and Senate Education Committee. She was primary sponsor of many bills that are now law, including mobile phone 911 access, ad valorem tax reform, early voting and mental health parity. She was also one of the chief architects of the Oklahoma Health Care Authority, the state’s Medicaid agency and completed her service in the Legislature in 2005.
Monson was later employed as director of health policy and associate provost for Community Partnerships and Health Policy by the Oklahoma University Health Sciences Center. She also served as an adjunct associate professor in the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine.
She was elected chair of the Oklahoma City Public Schools Board of Education and served one four-year term in that district-wide elected position.
“Senator Angela Monson has been an advocate for policy change leader in health care, education, social justice, taxes and other important issues for more than five decades,” Brennan Bratcher, Canadian County Democrats affirmative action officer, said. “Her work with community, faith-based, civic and civil rights organizations has improved the lives of hundreds of thousands of Oklahomans.”
Monson earned a master’s of public administration degree from the University of Oklahoma and a bachelor’s of science degree in corrections at Oklahoma City University. She is a graduate of Douglass High School in Oklahoma City.
She raised her niece and nephew after the death of their mother and is the proud grandmother of four. She is an active member of the Voice of Praise Baptist Church, where her mother, Rev. Epron Monson was the founding pastor.
The Canadian County Democrats regularly meet at 7 p.m. on the second Monday of each month, except December.
