For 20 years, the Canadian County Democrats have consistently awarded our $500 Robert “Bob” Burton Democratic Scholarships every year in memory of the organization’s former county vice chair. Our awards total more than $10,000 because we have occasionally awarded multiple scholarships in a single year.

Scholarship Committee Chair Shirley Burton is the widow of Bob Burton, for whom the scholarships are named. She is secretary of the Canadian County Democrats.

Scholarship committee members include Laurie Hammons and Mark Hammons.

“The CC Dems have awarded scholarships every year to deserving students which we understand is the record for any political organization in Canadian County,” Burton said. “Our family is proud that Bob’s legacy lives on by helping local students achieve their educational dreams.”

Scholarship applications must be received by Friday, May 1.

Applicants must be Democrats registered to vote in Canadian County and enrolled at least half-time at any accredited state-funded college, university or career technology center in Oklahoma.
