YUKON, Okla. – El Reno native Jim Potts will present a customized version of his “Build It Up” campaign for members of the Canadian County Democrats from 7-8:30 p.m. on Monday, July 8. The Democrats will meet this month only at Canadian Valley Tech Center Cowan campus at 1701 S. Czech Hall Road in Yukon.

The group regularly meets at 7 p.m. at Yukon Police Department, 100 S. Ranchwood, on the second Monday of each month except December when the group has a party.

Potts, who is vice chair of the Third Congressional Democrats, developed “Build it Up” with Democratic political activist Sarah Tooley. The program was first presented to the Oklahoma County Democrats.

Potts also served as Democratic Party precinct vice chair in 2019.

“Jim Potts is an adopted member of the Canadian County Democrats, who is always sharing his expertise and energy with us when we need him most,” said Jody Harlan, Canadian County Democrats chair. “He is also an outstanding trainer who has helps prepare and launch many of our best volunteers.”
Potts is a licensed architect, who recently retired.

“I have been politically active my entire life starting with a campaign for Canadian County sheriff for my father’s high school friend, Johnnie Siler,” Potts said.

He is currently volunteering in Oklahoma City to help Democratic candidates Tegan Malone in House District 95 and Chaunté Gilmore in House District 100.

Potts is also gathering signatures to support the Raise the Wage initiative petition, State Question 832.

Raise the Wage asks voters to approve a statewide ballot measure that would require employers to pay employees at least $9 per hour beginning in 2025, $10.50 per hour beginning in 2026, $12 per hour beginning in 2027, $13.50 per hour beginning in 2028 and $15 per hour beginning in 2029.

The minimum wage was last increased in Oklahoma 15 years ago in 2009.

Petitions will be available at the meeting for registered Oklahoma voters who would like to sign. SQ 832 is a non-partisan measure with support from many Republicans.

Potts attended El Reno Junior College, now known as Redlands Community College, Oklahoma State University and graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1976
