Democratic candidate for House District 60 and Congressional District 5 Chair to speak July 13
CANADIAN COUNTY, Oklahoma – Two speakers will talk to the Canadian County Democrats at 7 p.m. on Monday, July 13, at Canadian Valley Technology Center located at 6550 S. E. Highway 66 between Yukon and El Reno. The public is invited to use the east entrance on the south side and go to room 2A/2B.
Sharon Taylor is running for office in House District 60, which includes areas in Canadian County north of Highway 92, south of Highway 3, west of Oklahoma County line and east of Choctaw Avenue in El Reno.
Mary Jo Kilgore is Democratic party chair for Oklahoma’s Congressional District 5, which includes eastern Canadian County, all of Lincoln, Pottawatomie and Seminole counties and portions of Oklahoma and Logan counties.
SHARON TAYLOR
Taylor recently earned an endorsement from the Oklahoma Democratic Veterans Federation, which recognized relationships she has built with many veterans and military families.
“Taylor has a keen awareness of the problems facing veterans and military families: access to quality healthcare, including mental health services; barriers to receiving veterans’ benefits and services, homelessness and housing affordability, employment and workforce development for veterans transitioning to civilian life,” said the Oklahoma Democratic Veterans Federation statement.
Inspired by her grandmother, Lottie B. Griffin, Sharon Taylor learned compassion, fairness, forgiveness and the importance of standing up for people who cannot stand up for themselves.
Her Love Campaign is built on a simple idea: community over conflict.
“This campaign is not about attacking people or creating more division,” she said. “It’s about bringing people together — regardless of political party, background, or neighborhood — and focusing on what truly matters: safer communities, stronger families, transparency in government and leadership people can trust again.”
“Every resident in Canadian County and District 60 deserves to feel seen, heard and valued,” Taylor said. “People deserve strong services, safer communities, honest leadership and local government that listens and uses resources wisely.”
MARY JO KINZIE
Kinzie grew up in Tulsa with six sisters in a Catholic Democratic family. She became a social worker and worked in poverty programs for 35 years with the Oklahoma Department of Human Services. She retired to accept employment as the executive director for the Oklahoma chapter of the National Association of Social Workers where she sought ways to make connections in communities.
“After moving to OKC in 1993, I became much more active in the Democratic Party and became an ongoing regular volunteer,” Kinzie said. “In May 2025, I ran for 5th District Chair for the Oklahoma Democratic Party and have been working on that connection piece ever since.”
Kinzie plans to challenge attendees at the Canadian County Democrats meeting to actively support Democratic candidates and look beyond the next election.
The Canadian County Democrats meet at 7 p.m. on the second Monday of each month except December when they have a holiday party.
